There’s something deeply grounding about returning scraps back to the soil…closing the loop… and feeding the earth that feeds us 🌱
Here on our little slice of paradise, nothing goes to waste.
This morning’s ritual? A simple, powerful, living fertiliser made from homegrown organic banana peels and mineral-rich molasses.
No chemicals. No synthetics.Just nature… doing what she does best.
If you’ve been looking for a natural way to nourish your garden, support soil health, and grow stronger, more vibrant plants — this is one of the most beautiful places to begin.

Why Banana Fertiliser Works
Banana peels are absolute gold for the garden.
They’re naturally rich in:
Potassium – supports flowering, fruiting & strong plant structure
Phosphorus – encourages root development
Calcium & Magnesium – helps overall plant health and resilience
When we ferment them… something magical happens!
The nutrients become more bioavailable, and the fermentation process creates a living solution that feeds not just your plants — but the microbial life in your soil.
And that’s where the real magic is.
Why Add Molasses or Brown Sugar?
This is where we activate the life in the brew…
Molasses (especially organic, unsulphured) is rich in trace minerals and sugars
Brown sugar works similarly as a ferment starter
These natural sugars:
Feed beneficial microbes
Kickstart fermentation
Help break down the banana peels into a nutrient-rich liquid
Think of it as… food for your soil’s ecosystem.

🍌DIY Fermented Banana Fertiliser Recipe
What You’ll Need:
Banana peels (organic is best)
1–2 litres of water
2–4 tablespoons organic molasses or brown sugar
Glass jar or container (avoid plastic if possible)
Lid (loose fitting or breathable cloth)
How to Make It:
Chop your banana peels
Smaller pieces = faster fermentation.
Add to your jar
Fill loosely — don’t pack too tight.
Pour in water
Enough to fully submerge the peels.
Add molasses or brown sugar
Stir gently to dissolve.
Cover your jar
Keep it slightly breathable — fermentation creates gases.
Let it ferment
Leave in a warm, shaded spot for 5–10 days.
Strain the liquid
Once it smells slightly sweet, earthy (not rotten), it’s ready.
How to Use Your Banana Fertiliser
This is a concentrate, so always dilute before use:
Mix 1 part fertiliser to 5–10 parts water
Use it to:
Water around the base of plants
Feed fruiting plants, veggies, and flowers
Boost soil before planting
💡 Best used every 1–2 weeks

What to Do With the Leftover Peels?
Don’t toss them!
Add to your compost
Bury directly into garden beds
Feed your worm farm
Nothing wasted. Everything returned.
A Gentle Note
Your nose is your guide.
A healthy ferment will smell:
Slightly sweet
Earthy
Mildly tangy
If it smells putrid or rotten, it’s best to discard and start fresh.
