Clean With Purpose: DIY All-Natural Cleaner With Essential Oils
There’s something so empowering about making your own home essentials — I just love swapping out chemical-laden products for something natural, safe, and soul-nourishing. At Sweet Earth, we’re all about intentional, chemical free living, and that includes what we use to clean the spaces we call home. So let’s dive into why making your own all-purpose cleaner is not just a healthier choice, but a conscious one.

First and foremost — it’s about keeping toxins out of your home. Most mainstream cleaning products are loaded with harsh chemicals that don’t just clean… they linger. On your bench tops, in the air you breathe, and even on your skin. Making your own cleaner means you’re in full control of what’s going into your home — and your body.
Eco-friendly ingredients like white vinegar, isopropyl alcohol, witch hazel, baking soda, and essential oils still pack a powerful punch when it comes to cutting through grime, neutralising odours, and zapping germs. Best part? They do it without compromising your health or the environment — and your wallet will thank you too!
And let’s not forget the beautiful aromatherapy benefits. Your space will smell amazing without synthetic fragrances — just pure plant-powered goodness. Whether you love fresh citrus, cosy spice, or uplifting herbs, you can tailor the scent to match your vibe.

⬨ DIY All-Purpose Cleaner
This recipe will give you a concentrated cleaning solution that lasts around 3 months — perfect for spritzing around the kitchen, bathroom, or even floors. Avoid use on unsealed wood or delicate surfaces and always remember to spot test first. We are all about supporting local Australian business and we just love the essential oils from Australian Wholesale Oils (AWO), which we use in all of our beautiful handcrafted products, so of course we highly recommend them.
Ingredients:
7ml Lemon Essential Oil
7ml Orange Essential Oil
7ml Rosemary Essential Oil
25 drops Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil
25 drops Clove Bud Essential Oil
2 tablespoons Vegetable Glycerin
1 tablespoon Sweet Earth 'Lemon Burst' Dish Soap
1½ cups Witch Hazel
1½ cups White Vinegar
1 tsp Baking Soda (optional)
Approx. 5 cups Distilled Water
Gloves, large 2L glass container (with lid), funnel, spray bottle
Method:
Safety first – pop on your gloves.
In a glass jug, combine your essential oils, glycerin, and dish soap. Give it a gentle stir.
Add vinegar and witch hazel to the mix and stir again. If you're not a fan of vinegar, you can swap out for isopropyl alcohol with witch hazel (no baking soda) and add essentials.
If using baking soda, add it to your large glass container (sitting in the sink, just in case it fizzes up when vinegar hits!).
Using a funnel, pour your essential oil mixture into the container.
Once any bubbling settles, top the container with distilled water until full.
Seal tightly and give it a good shake.
Store in a cool, dry cupboard out of direct sunlight. Keeps fresh for around 6 months.
To Use:
Pour 20% of the concentrate into a clean spray bottle, then fill the rest with water. Shake before each use and spray directly onto hard surfaces like benchtops, tiles, stovetops, and even sinks. I like to add sliced lemons, orange and or limes with afew clove buds and or a cinnamon stick to my bottle, for that extra power punch!
Safety Tips:
Use gloves if you’ve got sensitive skin.
Keep out of reach of little ones and curious pets.
Avoid spraying on soft furnishings or unsealed timber.
Ventilate the area while cleaning — open a window and let nature flow in!
